The Bartram Trail Society of Florida, in partnership with Tobacco Free Putnam and Students Working Against Tobacco, was the first in Putnam County and the regional area to adopt a 100% tobacco and vape free policy for all their events, like the Annual St. Johns River Bartram Frolic & Festival.
Implemented since 2019, the Bartram Trail Society of Florida remains a positive example in our community for the last several years to ensure everyone breathes fresh air and enjoys the wonderful beauty that nature has to offer in Putnam County.
Having smoke and vape free environments in our community is essential to reduce secondhand smoke exposure and denormalize tobacco use among our youth.
Infants and children are at higher risk for experiencing respiratory symptoms, even after short exposure of just an hour. Secondhand smoke can cause upper respiratory infections, ear infections, asthma attacks and even sudden infant death syndrome.
Tobacco and vape free events and envorinments are also important to protect our animals and wildlife, reducing toxic chemicals and litter from being eaten by animals and leaching into our beautiful waterways.
The Bartram Trail Society of Florida cares about our environment and our future generations. They want to see Putnam youth live their lives free from the burden than tobacco use has had on so many of our loved ones, and urges local decision makers to adopt tobacco and vape free park policies to keep Putnam County safe, healthy and beautiful.
